Prairie Scout is looking ahead with debut album set to release January 31st

Hailing from the expansive indie landscape of Bloomington, IN, Prairie Scout is gearing up to leave their own mark on the scene with their 10 song debut album. What’s Ahead Is Behind Me is being released at the end of this month.

Comprised of Natalie Ingalls (singer-songwriter), Julia Fegelman (bass), Wesley Davis (drums), and John Hasey (guitar), the Hoosier-based indie rock band has already been underway building up anticipation for their release. “An Absolutely Remarkable Thing” and “Honeysuckle”, singles from the album, were released late last year with “Cyclical” joining the ranks this month.

“Cyclical” is a short but emotional track, with airy and dreamy vocals that pack a punch. Accompanied by soft keys and guitar, the track details Ingalls moving on from the pain of a breakup (detailed in the band’s first ever single “Undergrowth”), showcasing her chops as the heavy hitter songwriter behind Prairie Scout’s lyrics. “Cyclical is me making peace with that person and that time in my life — what felt like an inescapable period of hurt is now completely behind me, and now I'm making music with someone who understands me”, says Ingalls when asked about the track. Prairie Scout recorded the album at The Jacob’s School of Music, as well as with Ingalls’ partner Max DiFrisco and the band’s co-producer Nathan at their homes. DiFrisco is also one of the founders of Bloomington based record label and artist collective HumDrum Press, who represent Prairie Scout.

The album is set to release in a week, but it has been an ongoing pursuit from Ingalls and the band since 2022. “I wrote a lot of the songs on my own from September 2022 to August 2023, and then started fleshing them out with the band to play live. We started recording April 2024, and I think we collectively experienced a really big learning curve when figuring out how to translate the songs as we wrote them live into recorded versions”, Ingalls details. After 10 months of recording, mixing, mastering, and promoting the music — Prairie Scout is ready to step into their own and share their work and collective identity with listeners. “I'm really looking forward to having this music out — we've worked so hard, and it feels like a really good embodiment of who we are as band.”

Prairie Scout’s What’s Ahead Is Behind Me is out on all streaming platforms on January 31st, with an album release show happening at the Orbit Room to celebrate the record in its entirety. You can stay up to date with Prairie Scout via their Instagram and Youtube (killer music video for “Honeysuckle” also came out last month!).
